Red Rice is the most nutritious rice and is a source of staple food consumed by people around the world. It is red in color because of the content “anthocyanin” present in it. It is a whole grain because it contains bran, germ and endosperm. It is healthier than white rice because it is a whole grain and white rice is a refined grain. In terms of nutrition it is similar to brown rice and is a perfect alternative to it. It is either unhulled or partially hulled. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains certain vitamins and minerals like-protein, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, selenium, vitamin B6, vitamin B1 etc.
Red Rice is nutrient rich and has many health benefits like-fights free radicals, reduces the risk of heart diseases, reduces obesity, prevents cancer, lowers cholesterol, aids digestion, controls blood sugar levels, cures asthma, boosts immunity, reduces hunger pangs, prevents arthritis, prevents osteoporosis, prevents constipation, good for skin, strengthens bones and teeth etc.
Red Rice is a source of energy and is gluten free. It is used like white rice only and is used in almost all the cuisines across the world from soups to desserts, everything. It should not be consumed in access. It should be soaked in water for 1 hour and then rinsed thoroughly and it takes about 30-40 mins to cook (It needs almost 1.5 times of water-1:1.5). It takes more time to cook than white rice. It attains pink hue after getting cooked. Pregnant and breastfeeding ladies and children can consume it. Diabetes patients should consume it in moderation. People having liver disease should not consume it. It should be stored in an air tight container and has a shelf life of 6 months.
